LUBBOCK, TX — Lubbock Animal Services is reporting an increase in upper respiratory symptoms among dogs both in the community and inside the city shelter, prompting officials to urge pet owners to ensure their animals are properly vaccinated.
Lubbock Animal Services said core vaccinations — including distemper and parvovirus, along with the Bordetella vaccine — are critical in preventing the spread of common respiratory infections in dogs.
Residents are advised to monitor their pets for signs of illness, including:
-
Yellow or green eye discharge
-
Yellow or green nasal discharge
-
Persistent coughing
-
Red or irritated eyes
-
Lethargy
-
Neurological symptoms
-
Seizures
Officials say any dog showing these symptoms should receive prompt veterinary care.
Lubbock Animal Services said its priority is to keep animals in the shelter and across the community healthy and safe as cases rise.
