Lubbock to host ‘Move Out Give Back’ Event May 13

LUBBOCK, TX — The City of Lubbock Solid Waste Department, in partnership with Texas Tech University, will host its annual Move Out Give Back Program on Wednesday, May 13, to help reduce illegal dumping and promote reuse during the student move-out season.

The event will run from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will feature two temporary drop-off locations where students and residents can donate reusable household items.

Drop-off sites include:

  • Elgin Avenue and 29th Street, next to the City of Lubbock recycling site near the LP&L substation
  • First Baptist Church, southeast parking lot at 13th Street and Avenue V

Accepted items include clean, reusable goods such as hard-surface furniture, shelving units, lamps and small working appliances like microwaves, mini-refrigerators and coffee makers. On-site attendants will be available to help determine whether items are suitable for donation.

City officials encourage residents to use the designated sites to dispose of unwanted items responsibly, particularly large or bulky materials that cannot be placed in standard dumpsters.
