The Maxwell Football Club announced the watchlist on Monday, July 29. The Maxwell Award is a postseason honor awarded to the most outstanding player in college football.

He’s set to enter his fifth season with the Red Raiders, where he has a shot to become Texas Tech’s all-time leading rusher. Brooks currently sits in 7th all-time with 3,055 yards and is a little less than 1,200 yards from claiming the number one spot from Byron Hanspard.
Brooks returns for his final campaign after finishing last year as the nation’s 4th-best running back in yards. The Texas native finished with 1,538 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2023. Last season, Brooks garnered national attention when he was a semifinalist for both the Doak Walker and Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Awards and All-Big 12 First-team Honors.
There are 80 players currently on the watchlist, including Brooks. The ACC has the most representation, with 20 candidates, followed by the SEC and Big 12 with 15 and the Big 10 with 12. Washington Huskies quarterback Michael Penix Jr. won the award in 2023.
