LUBBOCK, TX — Lubbock Christian University’s men’s tennis player Kelly Giese has earned a spot in the ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) National Summer Championships, which will be held August 10-13 at the Leftwich Tennis Center at the University of Memphis in Tennessee.
According to Lubbock Christian University, Giese, a junior from Manhattan Beach, California, is the first player from LCU to qualify for this event and is currently the only NCAA Division II participant in the field. He secured one of the 32 spots in the singles competition after finishing as a finalist at the ITA Summer Masters Series event at Cal State Fullerton in July.
Despite an injury-plagued season, Giese competed in nine doubles matches and seven singles matches, achieving an 8-1 record in doubles and a 7-2 record in singles. He concluded the season ranked No. 37 nationally in doubles, partnering with teammate Martins Abamu. Over his career at LCU, Giese has posted a 25-12 record in singles and 26-8 in doubles.
The LCU men’s tennis program, which finished the season ranked No. 41 nationally, qualified for the NCAA postseason for the second consecutive year with an 18-7 overall record, improving on their previous 12-win season.
