SAN JOSE, BRAZIL — The Lubbock Christian Lady Chaparrals Basketball team traveled to San Jose, Brazil, this week for the inaugural Trimania International Women’s Basketball Tournament at Nedir Macedo Municipal Gymnasium.
The Lady Chaps opened up competition on Thursday, August 8, with a definitive 95-53 win over the host team, Basket Sao Jose. Now, LCU looks to continue their success on Friday when they face off against AJBF (Associacao Joinvilense de Basquetebol Feminino, or Joinville Women’s Basketball Association) Sesporte Joinville at 4 p.m. Friday afternoon.
In Thursday’s contest, the Lady Chaps claimed victory behind 28 points from Grace Foster. LCU shot 58% from the floor and an impressive 60% from three. Maddie Moyers and Audre Spurgin each added 14 points to join Foster in the double figures on offense.
AJBF Sesporte Joinville lost its first matchup on Thursday 76-45 to SR. Mmpituba. AJBF’s captain, Jamile Olga, scored 17 points in that contest and should be a good match for LCU’s talented defense. AJBF is based in Joinville, Brazil, which is the largest city in the State of Catarina.
