CLEVELAND, OH — The Dallas Cowboys kicked off the 2024 NFL Season with a dominant victory over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, September 8. The Cowboys’ defense manhandled Deshaun Watson and the rest of the Cleveland offense, while Dak Prescott and the Cowboys’ O put up 33 points on the day. Dallas won its opener 33-16.
Prescott threw his first touchdown pass of the season just hours after agreeing to a four-year, $240 million contract with the Cowboys. If the team was worried about results, they should not be anymore, as Prescott and the rest of the offense looked in midseason form.
Ezekiel Elliot scored a 3-yard touchdown in his return to the Cowboys, and punt returner KaVontae Turpin electrified the crowd with a return for a touchdown to blow open the game 27-3 early in the 3rd quarter. Most of the Dallas starters took a seat after that.
The real story of the day was the Dallas defense. All-Pro Micah Parsons and company made sure Watson was uncomfortable all day as he finished with a miserable 169 yards on 22 of 45 passing with one touchdown and two interceptions. While it might be too early to call, some Cowboys fans might already be thinking that this is it—this is their year.
Prescott finished his day with a 19 for 32 stat line for 179 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. He took a seat early in the second half and watched the Cowboys close out the Browns on the sidelines. That one interception might bother some people, but overall, the Cowboys’ signal caller had a productive day and a hot start to the 2024 season.
The Cowboys return to action on September 15, when they return to Dallas for their home opener against the New Orleans Saints (1-0). The Saints throttled the Carolina Panthers on Sunday 47-10. Kickoff for that matchup is slated for noon next Sunday.
