LUBBOCK, TX — The Lubbock Christian University Chaps and Lady Chaps both secured victory over the weekend in their respective Senior Day matches. The Chaps shut out Adams State with a 2-0 victory, while the Lady Chaps produced the exact same 2-0 result. The back-to-back wins completed the sweep of Adams State at home.
LCU Chaps
LCU started the scoring early when they were awarded a penalty kick in the seventh minute. Saimon Gjeci took the shot for the Chaps. His initial penalty shot was saved by the Grizzlies goalkeeper, but he snagged the rebound and put it into the back of the net.
The Chaps extended their lead in the 57th minute when Manu Nunez looped a corner kick into the box and Geoffroy Letienne put it away with a header.
Goal Keeper Connor Pettigrew compiled eight saves for the Chaps on Saturday. The defense played solid overall as they blanked the Grizzlies 2-0.
The Chaps return to action Thursday September 12 as they travel to Tahlequah, Oklahoma to battle Northeastern State. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. from DoLoache Field.
Lady Chaps
Ceci Madrid opened up the scoring for LCU when she scored her first goal of the season in the 13th minute. Avery Jennings provided the assist on the first goal before she scored one of her own later in the first half. Jennings tacked on another goal in the 33rd minute on an excellent pass from Mia Chambliss and Ella Spiller.
Goal Keeper Emma Wright only had to record one save in the 2-0 shutout. LCU’s defense proved up to the task on Saturday, as Adams State only managed three total shots. LCU’s offense hit five shots in the contest with four of them on goal.
The Lady Chaps return to action next Thursday (September 12) when they travel to Golden, Colorado, to take on the Colorado School of Mines. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. from Stermole Stadium.
