Monterey Plainsmen Seek First Win at Home

LUBBOCK, TX — The Lubbock Monterey Plainsmen (0-2) return home for their opener against El Paso Franklin after two weeks on the road to start 2024. Monterey dropped its first two away games after tough battles on the road but looks to secure its first win of the season on Friday, September 13.

The Plainsmen traveled to Oklahoma to play Choctaw High School before making the road trip to Abilene last week to play Abilene Wylie. Both games were tough, but last weeks was especially so after Monterey fell 29-28 on the last play of the game.

Despite the 0-2 start, Monterey may be one of the best 0-2 teams in 5A football. This season’s offense and defense are talented, and they should put on a show on Friday night. Head Coach Judd Thrash talked about the upcoming matchup against Franklin on Thursday at the Lubbock ISD’s Coaches Media Luncheon.

The Plainsmen seek to right the ship on Friday, September 13. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Lowery Field here in Lubbock.
