LCU Lady Chaps Cross Country Records Top 5 Finish at Texas Tech Open

 

LUBBOCK, TX – The Lubbock Christian University (LCU) women's cross country team delivered a solid performance on their home course at the Texas Tech Open on Saturday. Competing in an 11-team field, the Lady Chaps secured a fifth-place finish, accumulating 172 points with an average time of 25:36.02 over the 6k course.

LCU’s top runner, Chloe Trull, led the team with a 33rd place finish and a time of 25:05.60. Teammates Brooke Moorelock (25:15.10), Yahaira Martinez (25:34.80), Amy Tew (25:42.10), and Bucki Smith (26:22.50) completed the team’s scoring, contributing to a total time of 2:08:00.10.

Kylie Knapp (26:33.80) and Kinley Cornelson (26:43.60) also delivered strong finishes, helping the Lady Chaps secure their top-five team placement.

Texas Tech won the meet with a team score of 37 points, followed by West Texas A&M (41), New Mexico JC, and UTEP rounding out the top four.

The Lady Chaps will next compete at the NMJC Invitational II on September 27th in Hobbs, N.M.

Meanwhile, the LCU Men's Cross Country team secured an 8th-place finish at the same meet. The 8k race, hosted by Texas Tech, took place on LCU’s Cross Country Course and featured a competitive field of 11 teams and 105 runners.

LCU finished with a team score of 221 and an average time of 27:46.73, totaling 2:18:53.62 across their top five runners. Rawall, the Chaparrals' top finisher, completed the course in 26:56.80, improving on his time from last year's meet. LCU had seven runners place in the top 75, with Liam Kilbride, Aiden Zingone, Samuel Bryan, Jackson Martinez, Kaleb Gaona, and Caden Nunn all contributing to the team's solid showing.

Texas Tech’s Ernest Cheruiyot won the individual race with a time of 23:17.

The Chaparrals will next compete at the NMJC Invitational II on September 27th in Hobbs, N.M.
