LUBBOCK, TX — The Lubbock High Westerners have a chance to do something on Thursday night that hasn't been done in a long time—win three games in a row. Tonight, the Westerners host the San Angelo Lake View Chiefs at Lowrey Field in Lubbock. After securing a one-point victory in a tight game against Snyder last week, the Westerners look to build off that momentum to put together a winning streak against the Chiefs.
Head Coach Juan Rodriguez spoke about his team’s prospects before Thursday night’s game. Watch that interview below:
The Chiefs come off a big win over Lamesa last week in a game that encapsulated Lake View’s progress over the first three weeks of 2024. Lake View seems to improve a little bit more each week and should prove a tough test for the Westerners’ secondary. Sophomore quarterback Chris Alviso stepped in for the Chiefs’ injured QB1 and never looked back. The young man is dangerous through the air and with his legs, so Lubbock High’s defense needs to be able to contain the young man.
Teams have been able to run against Lake View’s defense, so Braiden Dunkerson and the rest of the Westerners’ runningbacks should be able to do damage on the ground. With that being said, Lake View can score a lot of points quickly. Lubbock High will have to control the clock and not turn the ball over to win this game.
The Westerners and Chiefs square off at Lowrey Field at Plains Capital Park on Thursday night, September 19. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
