LUBBOCK, TX — The Lubbock Monterey Plainsmen hit the road this week after securing their first win in 2024 over the 6A El Paso Franklin last week. Monterey faces a similar challenge on Thursday night, September 19, when the Plainsmen head to historic Ratliff Stadium in Odessa to take on another 6A opponent, the Odessa High Bronchos.
Head Coach Judd Thrash gave his thoughts on his team ahead of the matchup against Odessa High. Watch that interview below:
The Bronchos sport a similar offense to what El Paso Franklin ran against the Plainsmen a week ago and should present some of the same challenges. The defense only allowed 14 points against a team that is capable of putting up huge offensive numbers. On top of that, the Plainsmens’ defense scored with a safety. Monterey’s defense dominated in the game against Franklin and will need to duplicate that same performance on Thursday.
Quarterback Luke Arrington continues to improve each and every week and should take another step on Thursday night in Odessa. Arrington finished 12/22 for 181 yards and two touchdowns. He competed over 50 percent of his passes and looks to have an even better performance against the Bronchos. Every time the Plainsmens’ offense takes the field against 6A teams, they only get better.
Kickoff in Thursday night’s matchup is slated for 7 p.m. in Odessa.
