LUBBOCK, TX — The Texas Tech Hockey Club has received national attention with the unveiling of their new tortilla-themed jerseys, honoring a long-standing tradition at the university.
The jerseys pay homage to the ritual of tossing tortillas onto the football field during games, a fun practice that dates back to the late 1980s.
Last week, the team shared the exciting news on an X post, stating, “An ode to the greatest tradition in College Sports, we present our new Texas Tech Hockey Tortilla Jerseys.”
While the origins of this tradition remain a mystery, it continues to thrive among Texas Tech fans.
Starting September 19, the tortilla jerseys, with the team’s red and white game jerseys, will be available until October 3. Proceeds from the sales will help cover expenses for the hockey club.
The Texas Tech Hockey team will gear up for the 2024-25 season beginning October 11. For more information about the club or to purchase jerseys, visit ttuhockey.com.
