HOUSTON, TX — The MLB Playoffs begin on Tuesday, October 1, and the Houston Astros host the Detroit Tigers for Game 1 of a best-of-three series at Minute Maid Park in Houston on Tuesday afternoon. The Astros' old manager, A.J. Hinch, makes his return to Houston on Tuesday, now as the skipper for the upstart Tigers this season.
Houston finished 2024 with a 88-73 record in a season filled with injuries, most of those in the bullpen. Despite regular season struggles, the Astros are back in the playoffs, and are playing some of the best baseball they have seen all season.

Framber Valdez will get the start for Houston. He will battle Detroit's Tarik Skubal, who secured the American League's Triple Crown (18 wins, 2.39 ERA, and 228 strikeouts). This is an excellent matchup on paper, and the Astros' offense will need to show up ready to play to claim victory.
The Astros haven't played Detroit in 3.5 months but finished with a 4-2 regular season record against the Tigers. None of that matters, however, as playoff baseball is here. The Astros open up the American League Wild Card Series at home on Tuesday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. The game will be televised on ABC.
