LUBBOCK, TX — Texas Tech's women's soccer team puts their 13-match unbeaten streak on the line as the Red Raiders return to the John Walker Soccer Complex on Friday night, October 25, for a crucial Big 12 showdown against BYU. The No. 14 Red Raiders (13-2-2, 8-0-2 Big 12) are seeking to clinch their second consecutive Big 12 regular season title, needing a win and some help from TCU to secure the championship outright.
A victory over BYU (7-5-5, 5-2-3 Big 12) would ensure at least a share of the title, while a win combined with a TCU loss or draw would give Texas Tech sole possession of first place. If both teams win, the title will be shared.
The Red Raiders, who have not lost since August 25, have been dominant in Big 12 play, outscoring their opponents 13-2. Their unbeaten streak has coincided with the return of standout defender Macy Blackburn, who helped spark a defensive resurgence. In the last 13 matches, Texas Tech has outscored opponents 30-3 and not trailed at any point, a span of 1,170 minutes.
Texas Tech enters Friday’s match riding a 27-match unbeaten streak in Big 12 play, the longest such streak among Power Four conferences and second in the nation behind St. Louis. The Red Raiders have also maintained a 21-match home regular-season unbeaten run, with a record of 20-0-1 during that stretch. Their only non-victory at home was a recent 1-1 draw against Colorado.
Goalkeeper Faith Nguyen has anchored the defense with ten shutouts this season, including three consecutive clean sheets. Her ten shutouts rank fifth in program history for a single season.
Offensively, the Red Raiders are led by forward Taylor Zdrojewski, who contributed a goal and assist in last weekend's 3-0 win over Cincinnati. She has seven goals this season and played a pivotal role in drawing two penalty kicks in the recent victory.
The team’s 36-9 goal differential this season, including a +27 margin overall, ranks among the top in Division I. The Red Raiders are closing in on their second straight 40-goal season, needing just one more to reach the milestone.
As part of Friday’s festivities, fans are encouraged to wear black, and the first 500 attendees will receive a 2024 Texas Tech Soccer scarf. The game will also serve as Autism Awareness Night, with the team partnering with the Burkhart Center for Autism Education and Research.
- Texas Tech: 13-2-2 overall, 8-0-2 Big 12
- BYU: 7-5-5 overall, 5-2-3 Big 12
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at the John Walker Soccer Complex. Texas Tech will then prepare for the Big 12 Championship, which begins on Nov. 2.
