IRVING, TX — It was an exciting weekend for the Texas Tech Red Raiders over the weekend after Tech pulled off a come-from-behind, 23-22, victory over ranked Iowa State in the final minute last Saturday. The defense was one of the biggest factors in Texas Tech's victory over the Cyclones. Leading that defense was Jacob Rodriguez. Rodriguez earned Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honors for his performance, the Conference announced on Monday, November 4.
Rodriguez tallied 13 tackles, including two-and-a-half for a loss, a pair of sacks, and a forced fumble in Texas Tech's win at then-No.11/10 Iowa State. The linebacker matched his career high for tackles, while also setting career marks for sacks and tackles for loss in the Red Raiders' first road win over a team ranked in the top 10 of either poll since 2011. Rodriguez now leads the Conference with 84 total tackles, which ranks tied for eighth nationally.
Texas Tech's Linebacker adds this recognition to a growing list of accolades this season. Earlier this year, Rodriguez received NCAA's Defensive Player of the Week honors for his performance in the Red Raiders' win over Arizona.
Texas Tech will need Rodriguez to have another big game this weekend when another ranked opponent comes to town. Texas Tech returns to action on Saturday, November 9, at home against the No. 21 Colorado Buffaloes. Fox's Big Noon Kickoff will be in Lubbock on Saturday to preview the high-profile matchup before a 3 p.m. kickoff. This matchup is officially sold out, but there are still tickets available on sites like Seat Geek.
