LUBBOCK, TX — Even though the Texas Tech Red Raiders fell to Colorado at home last weekend, there is always a silver lining. Tahj Brooks rushed the football for 133 yards against the Buffs in a game where Brooks became Texas Tech’s new All-Time Leading Rusher.
The accomplishment, while monumentally impressive, was soured by the fact that Tech never managed to overtake the Buffs. Tech lost that matchup 41-27, when a fumble on the go-ahead drive for the Red Raiders was picked up by Shilo Sanders in the end zone to put the game out of reach.
Brooks gave his thoughts on his accomplishments after the game. Watch the video below:
“I put in so much work for this university, my teammates as well,” said Brooks. “I wish we would have gotten the dub for our fans, but [the record] is a blessing.”
It seemed like Brooks would have to wait another week after the 1st half. Brooks was 121 yards short before the game began, and stiff resistance from Colorado in the first half left Brooks with 14 carries for 25 yards through two quarters. However, Texas Tech’s leading man did what he always does. Grind yardage and move the chains.
At 5’10”, 230 lbs, Brooks it a bruising runner that only gets stronger as games progress. While Colorado looked sharp at the beginning of the game, Brooks wore them down. Two to four yard runs in the 1st quarter turned into 12-15 yard runs in the 2nd half. It was an 18-yard run in the 4th quarter that finally pushed Brooks over the edge, and into the history books.
Tahj finished the contest with 31 carries for 133 yards and a touchdown. Brooks has now rushed for over 100 yards in all nine games he’s played in this season. Defenses continue to fail to stop the young man as he now sets his sights on moving up the Big 12 All-Time leaderboard and earning the Red Raiders more victories.
“I want to try to get us to 8-4,” Brooks said after the Colorado game. “I want to get that 8th win under my belt.”
Texas Tech is off this weekend but returns to action on the road when the Red Raiders travel to Stillwater, Oklahoma, to play Oklahoma State on Saturday, November 23.
