LUBBOCK, TX — For the second consecutive season and the eighth time since 2012, the Texas Tech Red Raiders will host postseason soccer at the John Walker Soccer Complex. Texas Tech secured a No. 8 national seed Monday during the 2024 NCAA Soccer selection show, setting up a first-round matchup with SEC opponent LSU this Friday, November 15.
The Red Raiders earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament after a successful regular season, finishing second in the Big 12 Conference and achieving 14 total wins, including Big 12 Tournament play. The team also tied its program record with eight Big 12 wins and advanced to the Big 12 Tournament semifinals for the fifth time in six years.
Friday's game marks the fourth all-time meeting between Texas Tech and LSU, with the Red Raiders trailing 1-2 in the series. Their last encounter was a narrow 1-0 loss to LSU during the 2021 COVID-impacted season.
Reflecting on his team’s resilience, Head Coach Tom Stone remarked, "This 2024 team has shown incredible determination. Despite early challenges, we found our rhythm in late August and remained unbeaten until the regular season finale. Today, we celebrate a fantastic season and the chance to play November soccer at home."
Stone also acknowledged the difficult road ahead, as Texas Tech could face powerhouse Duke in the second round. “A tough first-round opponent in LSU, and potentially Duke if we advance, but that’s what makes this time of year so thrilling," he said.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT, with live coverage on ESPN+.
