LUBBOCK, TX — The No. 10 Shallowater Mustangs made the short trip to Lubbock on Thursday night to take on the Brownfield Cubs at Lubbock-Cooper's Pirate Stadium. Shallowater proved too much for the Cubs as the Mustangs cruised to a Bi-District Championship, 63-0.
The Mustangs proved how dangerous they can be on offense early as Shallowater jumped out to a 21-0 lead midway through the 1st quarter. The Cubs struggled to move the ball on the Mustangs and never managed to figure out a way to score.
Most impressive in the evening was the Mustangs' defense. Time and time again, Brownfield tried even to claim a first down, but the Mustangs would not have it. Unfortunately for Brownfield, the game was put out of reach by halftime.
Shallowater scored a few more touchdowns in the 2nd half, but at that point, the Mustangs ran the ball, drained the clock, and walked away with a 63-0 victory.
No. 10 Shallowater next turns their attention to the Area Round, where the Mustangs will clash with the Peaster Greyhounds. Peaster defeated Comanche on Thursday night in a dogfight that ended in a 33-30 victory for the Greyhounds.
The date and time for this matchup is still TBD.
