LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech defender Macy Blackburn has been named to the TopDrawer Soccer Team of the Week, the publication announced Tuesday, following her standout two-assist performance in the Red Raiders’ 2-1 victory over LSU in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
Blackburn played a pivotal role in both of Texas Tech's goals during Friday’s match. She delivered a pinpoint free kick to Taylor Zdrojewski for the opening goal and later connected with Skylar Haase on a perfect cross from a setup by Millie Elwood. Haase's header into the right corner of the net secured the game-winning goal.
With Friday’s effort, Blackburn increased her season assist total to 10, just one shy of her career-best mark from last season. She remains within striking distance of Alli Murphy’s program record for single-season assists.
Blackburn also reached a historic milestone, becoming the first player in Texas Tech soccer history to record two seasons with double-digit assists. Her career total now stands at 33, solidifying her as the nation’s leader in active career assists by a defender and placing her among the top 10 active NCAA players in assists across all positions.
The Red Raiders advanced to the NCAA Tournament Second Round, where they will face No. 1 seed Duke in Durham, North Carolina. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. Friday as Texas Tech looks to continue its postseason run.
