Texas Tech Dominates West Virginia in Home Finale

LUBBOCK, TX — The Texas Tech Red Raiders dominated every facet of their final home matchup against West Virginia on Saturday, November 30. Tahj Brooks rushed for a career-high 188 yards, and the Red Raiders put the game away by halftime. Texas Tech won on Senior Day 52-15.

It seemed like it would be a defensive struggle early, as neither team managed to score a touchdown in until the 2nd quarter. Tech took the lead with a field goal before the Mountaineers tied the ball game with a long field goal of their own. That would be the last time West Virginia scored until the 4th quarter.

Texas Tech exploded on offense in the 2nd quarter. The Red Raiders scored four straight touchdowns before the half to take a 35-3 lead. Tahj Brooks jumpstarted the scoring with a 2-yard touchdown before another West Virginia punt led to a 1-yard touchdown catch by Mason Tharp on a throw from Behren Morton to take a 20-3 lead with four minutes left in the half.

Texas Tech's defense then handed the Red Raiders another two opportunities to score before the break. First, an interception by CJ Baskerville resulted in a 37-yard rushing touchdown from Brooks before a fumble recovered by the defense turned into yet another Brooks touchdown. Tech led 35-3 at the half.

Coming out of the locker room, Texas Tech truly put this game out of reach on the first drive in the 3rd quarter. Morton hit Josh Kelly on a short pass and let his WR1 go to work. Kelly made a man miss and sprinted 31 yards to the house for another touchdown.

West Virginia managed two more touchdowns before the game was over, but at that point, it did not matter. Tahj Brooks left the game in the 4th quarter to a standing ovation from the Red Raider faithful after he passed his career high in rushing yards, and the Red Raiders smashed West Virginia on Saturday 52-15.
