Rodriguez and Brooks Headline Texas Tech's All-Big 12 Honors

 

IRVING, Texas — On Thursday, December 5, the Big 12 announced post-season honors for the 2024 football season, and Texas Tech football finished with a strong showing on the list. Five players earned first, and second-team selections and three more received honorable mention nods. 

All-Big 12 First Team

  • LB Jacob Rodriguez: Rodriguez, one of the conference’s top defensive standouts, led the Big 12 with 118 total tackles this season, ranking 11th nationally. The junior notched seven double-digit tackle performances, highlighted by a career-high 17 stops against Colorado. Rodriguez also received an honorable mention for Defensive Player of the Year.

All-Big 12 Second Team

  • RB Tahj Brooks: The Doak Walker Award semifinalist led the Big 12 in rushing yards per game (136.8) and recorded a Texas Tech record 11 consecutive 100-yard games. With 1,505 rushing yards in 11 games, Brooks broke multiple school and conference records, earning honorable mention for Offensive Player of the Year and Co-Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

  • WR Josh Kelly: In his first season with Texas Tech, Kelly surpassed 1,000 receiving yards, becoming the first Red Raider since 2018 to achieve the milestone. His 89 receptions rank eighth nationally. Kelly also earned honorable mention as Offensive Newcomer of the Year.
  • TE Jalin Conyers: The versatile Conyers excelled as a blocker and receiver, leading Texas Tech tight ends with 29 receptions for 308 yards and five touchdowns. He is the first Red Raider tight end to earn All-Big 12 honors since Jace Amaro in 2013.
  • PK Gino Garcia: Garcia led the nation in field goal accuracy among kickers with at least 15 attempts (94.7%), converting 18 of 19 tries. His streak of 16 consecutive made field goals set a new school record.
