Post Ends Season at Regional Finals

LUBBOCK, TX — The Post Antelopes traveled to Snyder on Thursday night to square off against the Stamford Bulldogs in a battle of the unbeatens for a trip to the State Semifinals. Stamford pulled ahead early and stopped Post on two key stops inside the 10-yard line to build a big first half lead. The Antelopes played better in the 2nd half but never managed to catch back up. Stamford claimed the Regional Championship 48-26.

Ian Vergara stood out once again for the Bold Gold with three touchdowns, all in the 2nd half. Keyandre Jefferson added Post’s final touchdown on the night on a pass from Landyn Garcia.

Stamford proved too much on offense throughout the night. The Bulldogs scored on three straight drives in a short first half, and Post failed to answer. On two straight possessions, Vergara and the Post offense drove inside the red zone but could not score. Stamford led 21-0 at the half.

The Bulldogs would add another touchdown early in the 3rd quarter before Post finally clawed their way onto the scoreboard. Vergara scored from seven yards out to narrow Stamford’s lead to 28-6.

Following another Bulldog touchdown, Vergara broke through the defense to score from 31 yards out. Post’s offense woke up but could not find the stop they needed to climb back into the game.

Stamford made several subs as the 4th quarter began as the two teams finished out the Regional Championship game. Post’s stellar season came to an end on Thursday night, 48-26.

The Antelopes finished 2024 with a 13-1 overall record and a District, Bi-District, Area, and Regional Semifinal Championship. Head Coach John Wright talked about his team after the game. Watch that interview below:

2024 might be over for the Bold Gold, but with what fans saw from the Antelopes this season, no one will be surprised to see a resurgence from Post next season.
