LUBBOCK, TX — Texas Tech has officially accepted an invitation to the 66th AutoZone Liberty Bowl, marking the program's 42nd bowl appearance. The Red Raiders will take on Arkansas on Dec. 27 at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium in Memphis, Tennessee. The game will kick off at 6 p.m. CT and will be broadcast live on ESPN.
"Texas Tech is proud to accept its 42nd bowl appearance in school history and return to the AutoZone Liberty Bowl," said Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt. "We look forward to bringing Red Raider Nation back to the great city of Memphis to showcase our football program in one of college football’s most-storied bowl games."
The matchup rekindles a historic rivalry between Texas Tech and Arkansas, two former Southwest Conference foes. This will be the 38th meeting between the programs but their first-ever clash in a bowl game. Texas Tech leads the series 29-7-1. The teams last met in 2014 and 2015, splitting the series with the Red Raiders winning the most recent contest, 35-24, in Fayetteville.
Texas Tech (8-4) returns to the Liberty Bowl for the second time in program history, having previously delivered a dominant 34-7 victory over Mississippi State in 2021. The win was the first of a three-game bowl win streak, currently tied for the longest in program history.
"We are looking forward to bringing the Red Raiders to the AutoZone Liberty Bowl," said head coach Joey McGuire. "This is a tremendous opportunity for our program to possibly reach nine wins and end our season on a strong note against an Arkansas program we respect. We hope to see Red Raider Nation take over Memphis and paint Beale Street and the Liberty Bowl in scarlet and black."
Established in 1959, the AutoZone Liberty Bowl is the seventh-oldest bowl game in college football. It has annually matched a Big 12 team against an SEC opponent since 2014.
