Nolen Hester Named Director of Baseball Operations at Texas Tech

LUBBOCK, TX – Former Texas Tech outfielder Nolen Hester has been appointed as the Red Raiders’ Director of Baseball Operations, head coach Tim Tadlock announced.

“Our staff is excited to bring back Nolen Hester in the role of Director of Baseball Operations,” Tadlock said. “Upon finishing his MBA in Finance last year at Texas Tech, Nolen expressed an interest in getting involved in college baseball. His baseball background combined with his people skills should fit perfectly and allow him to impact our program.”

Hester, a native of Mount Pleasant, Texas, and a graduate of Rockwall-Heath High School, transferred to Texas Tech for his fifth year of eligibility after playing at Wofford. During his sole season in Lubbock, Hester played a pivotal role in the Red Raiders’ success, starting all 60 games and helping the team achieve 41 victories and a Regional Final appearance.

In 2023, Hester batted an impressive .361, tallying 17 doubles and 35 RBIs. He scored 56 runs and demonstrated extraordinary plate discipline, drawing 61 walks—the third-highest single-season total in program history—against just 27 strikeouts. His .525 on-base percentage highlighted his offensive consistency.

Hester will officially assume his new position on December 16, overseeing critical aspects of the program’s operations, including budgeting, team travel, summer camps, and day-to-day logistics.

The Red Raiders kick off the 2025 baseball season on February 14, traveling to Chapel Hill for a three-game series against 2024 College World Series participant North Carolina. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. CT.
