LUBBOCK, TX — Texas Tech will face Arkansas in the 66th AutoZone Liberty Bowl on Friday, December 27, with kickoff set for 6 p.m. at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium in Memphis, Tennessee. The game marks Texas Tech’s 42nd bowl appearance in program history and the first bowl meeting between the two former Southwest Conference rivals.
The Red Raiders (8-4, 6-3 Big 12) are returning to the Liberty Bowl for the second time in four years, following a 34-7 victory over Mississippi State in 2021. Texas Tech has won its last three bowl games and will seek its fourth consecutive bowl victory, a feat that would mark a first for the program in consecutive seasons. Arkansas (6-6, 3-5 SEC) is making its first Liberty Bowl appearance since 2015.
The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN, with Anish Shroff providing play-by-play, Andre Ware offering analysis, and Paul Carcaterra reporting from the sideline. Fans can also tune into the Texas Tech Sports Network, with Brian Jensen, John Harris, and Chris Level on the call.
Texas Tech will be led by freshman quarterback Will Hammond, who is making his first career start after Behren Morton underwent shoulder surgery following the regular season. Hammond becomes the eighth true freshman in school history to start at quarterback and the first to do so in a bowl game.
The Red Raiders are seeking their first nine-win season since 2009. Running back Tahj Brooks and receiver Josh Kelly have been key contributors, combining for 1,500 rushing yards and 1,000 receiving yards, marking the first time in school history the program has achieved this dual milestone in a single season.
Arkansas holds a 29-8 advantage in the all-time series, but Texas Tech has won three of the last four meetings. The two teams last met in 2015, with Patrick Mahomes leading the Red Raiders to a 35-24 victory in Fayetteville.
