Chicago Bears Reportedly Interested in Cowboys’ Mike McCarthy

CHICAGO, IL – The Chicago Bears have reportedly requested permission to interview Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy for their coaching vacancy, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

“Chicago Bears have sought permission to interview Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy and are awaiting a response from Dallas, sources tell me and Todd Archer,” Schefter shared on Twitter. “If the Cowboys don’t allow permission this week, the Bears could interview McCarthy after his exclusive negotiating window with Dallas expires Jan. 14.”

McCarthy, whose contract with the Cowboys expires next week, will be free to explore other opportunities if he chooses to part ways with Dallas. It remains unclear whether the Bears are prepared to wait for his availability should the Cowboys decline the request for an early interview.

The Cowboys’ stance on McCarthy’s future is still undecided, according to sources, though the decision might ultimately rest with the coach himself. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler previously reported that McCarthy has shown significant interest in the Bears’ head coaching role ahead of the 2025 season.

McCarthy, who joined the Cowboys in 2020, led Dallas to consistent playoff appearances but has yet to bring a Super Bowl title back to the franchise. His potential move to Chicago would mark a fresh chapter for both the Bears, who are seeking to rebuild, and McCarthy, who may be looking for a new challenge in his coaching career.

The situation is fluid, and developments are expected as the expiration of McCarthy’s contract approaches. Jerry Jones has not exactly been clear on what his intentions are, but with how the Cowboys performed this season, a move in a different direction is likely to happen.
