Former LSU Receiver Arrested for Negligent Homicide

CHACKBAY, LA — Former LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacy turned himself into Louisiana State Police on Sunday night after an arrest warrant was issued in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash on December 17.

According to police records, Lacy, 24, was booked on charges of negligent homicide, hit-and-run causing death, and reckless driving. He was released after posting $151,000 bail less than two hours later.

According to Louisiana State Police, Lacy was speeding on LA 20 in Chackbay when he crossed into the opposite lane in a no-passing zone. Two cars tried to avoid hitting him. One swerved left but crashed head-on into another car, killing Herman Hall, a 78-year-old US Marine. Hall was in the passenger seat, and two other people were also injured in the crash.

After the crash, Lacy did not stop and continued driving away from the scene. State Police later identified him as the driver responsible, and an arrest warrant was issued. Police did not state how fast he was driving.

Lacy was out of state at the time, but police said they were in contact with him and his lawyer, and he agreed to turn himself in. Lacy’s agent also released a statement on X.

Lacy was reportedly speeding in a Dodge Charger. The speed limit on Louisiana Highway 20 is 55 mph.

Two days after the crash, Lacy declared for the 2025 NFL Draft and opted out of playing in the Texas Bowl against Baylor.

During his time at LSU, Lacy had 112 receptions, 1,692 yards, and 16 touchdowns. He is considered one of the top wide receiver prospects for the upcoming 2025 NFL draft.
