LUBBOCK, TX — The Lubbock-Cooper Lady Pirates faced off against the Caprock Lady Longhorns in Lubbock on Tuesday night. The Lady Pirates started strong and maintained control throughout the contest, using multiple trips to the line and dominant play in the paint to cruise to a 54-18 victory.

As the clock wound down, both teams struggled to score, with turnovers and fouls keeping things slow in the paint. In the second quarter, the Lady Pirates found their rhythm, with Tayley Bullen dropping 8 points. Meanwhile, the Lady Longhorns only managed two free throws from Mariah Mejia. By halftime, the Lady Pirates were comfortably ahead, 19-6.
In the second half, the Lady Pirates adjusted to the Lady Longhorns' defense, taking advantage of the plenty of opportunities to draw fouls. 11 of their 16 trips to the free-throw line helped extend their lead, while Caprock only managed 1 bucket from their 2 trips. The Lady Pirates held on as the clock wound down and secured a 54-18 victory over the Lady Longhorns.
Lubbock-Cooper Lady Pirates’ Tayley Bullen led all scorers Tuesday night with 20 points, and Hannah Campbell scored 9.
Caprock’s Santana Garner led the Lady Longhorns with 8 points, Harmony and Mackinzy Hampton both scored 3.
The Lubbock Cooper Lady Pirates make the short trip north of town to face off against the Lubbock High Lady Westerners on Friday, Jan. 24. Tip-off is scheduled at 6:00 p.m.
