Hale Center Topples Bovina for Another District Win

HALE CENTER, TX — The Hale Center Owls hosted the Bovina Mustangs on Friday night, Jan. 24, for a district matchup at Hale Center High School. Despite a slow start, the Owls stayed hot from three the entire contest to take down the Mustangs 97-33.

Check out some of the game highlights below:

Bovina came out strong, scoring the game's first seven points thanks to missed shots and turnovers by Hale Center. However, the Owls soon recovered. All it took was a timeout, a made three, and a steal for the Owls to wake up. Hale Center exploded in the second half of the first quarter to take a commanding 23-10 lead headed to the 2nd quarter.

The Owls picked up right where they left off in the 2nd. After a stunning 16 points from the Owls' Carter Gonzales in the 1st quarter, Kauner Cervantez and Aiden Baldridge followed that up with 12 points a piece in the 2nd quarter with several steals and made baskets in quick succession. Hale Center led 51-16 at the half.

Bovina never gave up the fight in the final two quarters. They made the shots they were able to take on the offensive side of the floor but could never quite overcome the pressure put on by Hale Center's full-court defense. Hale Center ran away with this one 97-33.
