Shallowater Holds Off Littlefield for Fourth Consecutive Win

The Wildcats got on the board first but didn’t grab the lead again until late in the 3rd quarter. The Mustangs were clicking with their passing, which helped them break through the tight defense Littlefield was putting up. Offensive rebounds gave them an edge, and by the end of the 1st quarter, they were up 15-6. The 2nd quarter was a lot closer, with both teams turning turnovers into points, but Littlefield couldn’t manage to take the lead. At the half, Shallowater was ahead, 23-15.

The second half saw a lot more action. Littlefield picked apart the Mustangs and slowly started to creep up on them. A great run in the third quarter put Littlefield on top by 2. After a timeout and a new game plan, Shallowater came out tearing and played aggressively in the paint after solid passes around the arc. As the Mustangs regained the lead, they never looked back. Although Littlefield’s Kam McCarty sunk 2 3-point shots, it wasn’t enough to put them back on top as fouls sent Shallowater to the line. Shallowater didn't have too much breathing room, but they secured their 4th consecutive district play win, 51-46.

Shallowater’s Gavin Coleman led the Mustangs with 15 points on Friday night, Logan Winn scored 14, and Alex Rodriguez scored 8.

Littlefield’s Kam McCarty was the game's top scorer with 18 points, and Ryan Williams and Chip Green scored 8.

The Shallowater Mustangs will travel to Friona on Tuesday, January 28, to face the Chieftans. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
