IDALOU, TX – The Idalou Wildcats squared off against the No. 8 Slaton Tigers on Tuesday night at Idalou High School. After a fast 5-0 start by the Tigers, the Wildcats clamped down defensively and surged ahead, closing out the game with a 58-42 win over Slaton.

Right after tip-off, the Slaton Tigers came out fast. A quick layup off a fast break and a deep 3-pointer put them ahead, leaving the Wildcats scrambling. But Idalou didn’t back down. They responded with a run of their own, quickly taking control and holding the Tigers to just those 5 points for most of the quarter. With some quick moves in the paint, Slaton found their rhythm again and kept the game close. Both teams traded a few buckets, but Idalou’s defense continued to shine. The Wildcats' intensity on both ends of the floor kept them in charge despite the Tigers' attempts to answer back.

The second quarter saw the Tigers mostly working from the free-throw line while the Wildcats dominated on the inside. Slaton had a few opportunities, but their offense stalled as the Idalou defense locked in. The pace slowed compared to the first quarter, and both teams went into the break with Idalou leading 24-14.

The Tigers started to close the gap in the third quarter, with free throws keeping the game tight. The Wildcats had some chances of their own at the line, but Kutter Houchin hit a big three from the corner to keep Idalou’s lead at around 10 points. The fourth quarter played out much the same, with the Tigers scoring but the Wildcats always finding a way to respond. A big dunk from Lucas Jarnagin brought the crowd to life and gave Idalou even more momentum. After a few missed attempts from the Tigers, the Wildcats ran out the clock and clinched the 58-42 win over the No. 8 Tigers.
