LUBBOCK, TX — Texas Tech infielder Peyton Shulze has been named the No. 27 first baseman in the nation by D1Baseball, the publication announced Wednesday as part of its position-by-position rankings ahead of the 2025 season.
Shulze, a transfer from Cal, has played in 152 career games, beginning at Long Beach State in 2022 before spending the past two seasons at Cal. The California native is a career .283 hitter and is coming off a standout 2024 season in which he batted .323 with 10 home runs, 59 RBIs, and 21 doubles.
Over 106 games at Cal, Shulze made 105 starts, totaling 17 home runs and 98 RBIs. He has also been a consistent defensive presence, recording more than 1,060 putouts with just 15 errors.
Shulze joins Arizona State’s Jacob Tobias, who was ranked No. 6 among first basemen by D1Baseball.
Texas Tech opens its 2025 season on February 14 with a three-game series at No. 6 North Carolina. First pitch in Chapel Hill is scheduled for 3 p.m.
