Lady Mats Claim Victory Over LC Liberty on Senior Night

 

LUBBOCK, TX — The Estacado Lady Matadors won a hard-fought victory over Lubbock-Cooper Liberty on Senior Night at Estacado High School. The Lady Mats took the lead early but had to fight off a furious comeback in the 2nd half before claiming victory, 50-35.

Ashondra Johnson came out of the gates hot with five points for Estacado in the 1st quarter. The Lady Mats took advantage of several Lady Patriot turnovers to take a 13-3 lead headed to the 2nd. Lubbock-Cooper Liberty's Alyssa Ferguson finally got the Lady Patriots back in the ball game with 11 of Liberty's 13 points in the 2nd quarter. Estacado took a 27-16 lead into the break.

Then it was LIberty's Abby Dallas' turn in the 3rd quarter. She scored six of 16 points in the 3rd to pull the Lady Patriots within three points at one point in the 3rd period. However, suffocating defense from the Lady Mats in the 4th quarter held the Lady Patriots to only three total points to close out the game. Estacado claimed the district victory 50-35 on Senior Night.

Estacado's Danali Perez led the Lady Mats with 16 points, while Abby Ferguson took the lead for Lubbock-Cooper Liberty with 16 points.

Estacado returns to action on Tuesday, February 4, when the Lady Mats travel to San Angelo to close out the regular season against the Lake View Maidens. Tip-off in that matchup is scheduled for 6:15 p.m.

The Lady Patriots return to action on Tuesday, February 4, against Big Spring for Senior Night at Lubbock-Cooper Liberty High School. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m.
