WAIMEA, HI — Texas Tech sophomore Tim Wiedemeyer carded a 6-under-par 66 in the opening round of the Amer Ari Invitational on Thursday, leading the Red Raiders at Mauna Lani’s North Course.
Wiedemeyer’s round, which included an eagle on the par-5 seventh hole, five birdies, and just one bogey, tied his career-low score. The sophomore sits in a tie for ninth place heading into Friday’s second round.
Freshman Connor Graham and senior Charlie DeLong also posted strong performances, each shooting 4-under 68 to finish the day in a tie for 26th. DeLong played a bogey-free front nine, recording four birdies.
Senior Calum Scott rounded out Texas Tech’s under-par scorers with a 2-under 70, matching Wiedemeyer’s eagle on the seventh hole. Scott is currently tied for 51st in a competitive 123-player field.
As a team, Texas Tech is tied for seventh at 16-under 272, alongside Texas and UCLA. The Red Raiders are one shot behind fifth place and four strokes back from third. Oklahoma State leads the 20-team tournament at 26-under 262.
