Lubbock Sends Off Monterey to State in Style

LUBBOCK, TX — It's been 44 years since the Monterey Lady Plainsmen had a basketball season like this one, 44 years since their last state title. This weekend, the Lady Plainsmen have a chance to do it again.

Friends, family, and fans from around the Lubbock community gathered at Monterey High School on Thursday morning to send the ladies off in style. The entire school was in attendance as the ladies boarded the bus and headed off to San Antonio to play for a state championship.

Check out the send-off below:

Monterey earned its state berth with a 60-57 win in Abilene on Tuesday over Frisco Memorial. In a game filled with drama, including a 25-point comeback from Memorial, the Lady Plainsmen held on to secure the victory.

Now, Monterey sets their sights on their final goal, a state trophy. The Lady Plainsmen face off with Liberty Hill on Saturday, February 27, at the Alamo Dome at 11 a.m.
