LUBBOCK, TX — Monterey High School recognized standout basketball player Aaliyah Chavez with a special jersey presentation during a schoolwide pep rally on Wednesday, March 5, at 8:45 a.m. in the New Box Gym at Monterey High School.

Chavez, a senior, has been selected to compete in the prestigious 2025 McDonald’s All American Games, solidifying her status as one of the nation’s top high school basketball players. A McDonald’s representative presented Chavez and longtime Monterey coach Jill Schneider with a commemorative honoree jersey recognizing their contributions to the school’s basketball legacy.
Chavez was chosen from a pool of more than 800 nominees nationwide and will represent Monterey on the Girls West Team in Brooklyn, New York, this April.

The pep rally also celebrated Monterey’s spring sports athletes, including the state champion Lady Plainsmen basketball team. A separate event will be held to honor the Lady Plainsmen specifically, and the rally will highlight their championship run along with the accomplishments of Monterey student-athletes competing this season at a later date.
