Texas Tech Lands No. 3-Seed for 2025 NCAA Tournament

 

LUBBOCK, TX — The Texas Tech Red Raiders are headed to the big dance. The Red Raiders found out their seeding and first-round matchup during the NCAA's Selection Sunday show.

Texas Tech was named a No. 3 seed for the tournament and will face off with UNC Wilmington on Thursday, March 20. Tip-off is scheduled for 9 p.m. in Wichita, KS.

No. 3 Texas Tech (24-9) earned its sixth bid in seven tournaments, including both seasons under head coach Grant McCasland.

The Big 12 sends a total of seven teams to the NCAA Tournament this March Madness season. The Big 12 Champion Houston Cougars were selected as a No. 1 seed.

Houston’s No. 1 seed extends the conference’s streak to five consecutive years with a top seed and 17 times in the league’s 28-year history. The Cougars, winners of both the Big 12 regular season and Big 12 Championship, carry the nation’s third-longest win streak into their first-round matchup against No. 16 SIU Edwardsville in Wichita, Kansas, on Thursday. Head coach Kelvin Sampson makes his 20th career NCAA Tournament appearance.

No. 3 Iowa State will play No. 14 Lipscomb in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Friday. The Cyclones are seeking their third Sweet 16 appearance in four seasons under T.J. Otzelberger and have reached the NCAA Tournament in 11 of the last 13 seasons.

No. 4 Arizona (28-6) travels to Seattle to take on No. 13 Akron. The Wildcats have reached the NCAA Tournament in all four seasons under Tommy Lloyd, advancing to the second weekend in two of the past three.

No. 6 BYU (24-9) earned an at-large bid for the second straight season in the Big 12. First-year head coach Kevin Young will lead the Cougars against No. 11 VCU (28-6) in Denver, Colorado, on Thursday.

No. 7 Kansas (21-12) extended its record streak to 33 consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, including all 21 under head coach Bill Self. The Jayhawks, who hold a 13-game First Round win streak, will take on No. 10 Arkansas (20-13) in Providence, Rhode Island, on Thursday.

No. 9 Baylor (19-14) makes its 10th tournament appearance in the last 11 seasons under Scott Drew. The Bears, seeking their sixth straight First Round win, will face No. 8 Mississippi State (21-12) in Raleigh, North Carolina, on Friday.

This year’s regional rounds will take place March 27-30 in:

  • Atlanta, Georgia
  • Indianapolis, Indiana
  • Newark, New Jersey
  • San Francisco, California

The 2025 Men’s Final Four will be held at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, on April 5 and 7.
