LUBBOCK, TX — Texas Tech enters the 2025 NCAA Tournament as the No. 3 seed in the West Region while also holding the No. 9 ranking in both the Associated Press Top 25 and Coaches Polls.
The Red Raiders (24-9) have now been ranked in the Top 10 for a program-record five consecutive weeks after going unranked in the preseason and through Week 12. Tech first entered the AP Top 25 on January 27 at No. 22. The Red Raiders also sit at No. 7 in the KenPom rankings and No. 7 in the NCAA NET rankings heading into March Madness.
Duke (31-3) holds the nation’s No. 1 ranking, followed by No. 2 Houston (30-4), No. 3 Florida (30-4), No. 4 Auburn (28-5), and No. 5 St. John’s (30-4). The Big 12 is further represented by No. 15 Iowa State (24-9), No. 17 BYU (24-9), and No. 21 Arizona (22-12) in the final polls before the tournament.
Texas Tech will open its March Madness run in the First Round of the West Region, facing UNC Wilmington (27-7) on Thursday at 9:10 p.m. at INTRUST Bank Arena in Wichita, Kansas.
The game will be broadcast nationally on truTV, with local radio coverage on Double T 97.3 and national radio coverage on SiriusXM Channel 211. The Wichita regional site also features a No. 6 Missouri vs. No. 11 Drake matchup at 6:35 p.m., with the winners meeting in the Second Round on Saturday. Missouri (22-11) enters the tournament ranked No. 23 in the AP Top 25.
Texas Tech has now been ranked in the AP Top 25 for eight straight seasons, marking the longest streak in program history. The Red Raiders have remained in the Top 10 for five consecutive weeks, reaching as high as No. 9 on February 17. They entered the AP Poll for the first time this season at No. 22 on January 27 and have been ranked every week since. In addition to their position in the AP and Coaches Polls, Tech ranks No. 7 in both the KenPom and NCAA NET metrics, solidifying their national standing heading into the tournament.
Despite their strong finish, the Red Raiders were not expected to be among the Big 12’s top teams at the start of the season. They were picked seventh in the Big 12 Preseason Poll and had no players selected for preseason awards.
The program’s highest AP ranking in history came in February 2018, when they reached No. 6. In the 2018-19 season, Tech was ranked No. 7 throughout the NCAA Tournament, a run that ended with an appearance in the 2019 National Championship Final.
