While a disappointment for the Red Raider faithful, OU fans and alumni should be incredibly excited for what this 5-foot-11 point guard brings to the program.

In four years at Monterey, Chavez finished her high school career with 4,796 points, 1,279 rebounds, 771 assists, and 476 steals in 150 games.

She holds the Monterey school record for points in a game (57) and was the integral piece that led the Lady Plainsmen to the 5A Division II state championship earlier this year. Monterey defeated Liberty Hill 64-35 in that matchup to claim the Lady Plainsmen’s first state title in 44 years.

Adding to her laundry list of accomplishments, Chavez was selected as a McDonald’s All-American and the 2025 Gatorade Player of the Year.

Widely considered one of the biggest talents to ever come out of West Texas, Chavez drew crowds wherever she went. There were numerous occasions throughout her years as a high school player when girls would travel just to see her play.
