WOLFFORTH, TX — Frenship ISD recently announced the hiring of Jason Cooper as the Girls Athletic Coordinator and Head Girls Basketball Coach at the soon-to-open Frenship Memorial High School.
Cooper joins the district with 26 years of coaching experience across high school and collegiate athletics. Most recently, he served as the head women’s basketball coach at Wayland Baptist University, where he led the Flying Queens to national tournaments in each of his four seasons at the school. In 2025, he was named the South Region National Women’s Basketball Division I Coach of the Year by the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) after guiding the team to a No. 2 national ranking.
At Wayland Baptist, Cooper also climbed the record books, ranking fourth in program history in NAIA national tournament victories.

Cooper is expected to begin his new role in early April and will begin meeting with student-athletes and coaching staff ahead of Frenship Memorial’s opening in August.
He emphasized his vision for the program will be built on values that extend beyond the court.
A graduate of Wayland Baptist University, Cooper holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree from the institution, where he also played basketball and was named an NAIA All-American in 1999.
Coaching and education run in the Cooper family. His wife, Amanda, has worked in public education for 25 years. Their daughter is currently the head girls basketball coach at Lubbock Trinity Christian High School, and their son is a high school sophomore and avid basketball player.
