DALLAS, TX— Former NFL defensive lineman and Texas Tech standout Kerry Hyder Jr. has been named the new head football coach at Bishop Dunne Catholic School, the school announced.
This marks Hyder’s first head coaching position following an eight-year professional career that included stints with the Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans, New York Jets, Detroit Lions, San Francisco 49ers, and Seattle Seahawks. He retired from the NFL in 2023.
Hyder takes over a Falcons program coming off an 0-10 season and carrying a 13-game losing streak into the 2025 campaign. Bishop Dunne finished 3-7 in 2023 and reached the first round of the TAPPS Division II playoffs, falling to eventual champion Argyle Liberty Christian.

The Falcons are expected to return several contributors from last fall, including junior Cordae Cleveland-Brown, who contributed both rushing and receiving yards. Sophomore Noah Williams and freshman Tobias Whitley also return after leading the team in tackles and interceptions. All three had multiple picks during the 2024 season.
A native of Austin, Hyder played high school football at Lyndon B. Johnson High School before signing with Texas Tech as a three-star recruit. He earned All-Big 12 honors in 2012 and 2013 as a defensive lineman for the Red Raiders.
Since retiring from football, Hyder and his wife, Jasmine — a former Division I All-American track athlete at Arizona State — have opened a Cheba Hut "Toasted" Subs location in Dallas. The sandwich shop is located at 17370 Preston Road, Suite 410.
