LUBBOCK, TX – Texas Tech standout JT Toppin was named the 2025 recipient of the Riley Wallace Award on Wednesday, recognizing the most impactful transfer player in the nation. The award is presented annually by CollegeInsider.com.
Toppin, a sophomore forward who transferred from New Mexico, added the honor to an already impressive list of accolades following a breakout season that helped lead the Red Raiders to the NCAA Elite Eight. He was previously named Big 12 Player of the Year, Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, First Team All-Big 12 and an All-Big 12 Newcomer Team selection. He also earned a spot on the NCAA Tournament West Region All-Tournament Team.

The Albuquerque native averaged 18.2 points, 9.4 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game while recording 19 double-doubles. Three of those efforts included 30-plus point performances, highlighted by a career-high 41-point, 15-rebound game.
Toppin also earned All-America honors from the Associated Press, NABC, USBWA and The Sporting News.
The Riley Wallace Award is named after the longtime University of Hawaii head coach, who became the program’s all-time winningest coach and guided the Rainbow Warriors to nine postseason appearances during his tenure. The award celebrates players who make a significant impact after transferring to a new program.
