Monterey's Jill Schneider Announces Retirement

LUBBOCK, TX – Lubbock Monterey's Head Girls' Basketball Coach, Jill Schneider, is going out on top.

After leading the Monterey Lady Plainsmen to their first UIL Class 5A Division II state championship since 1981, Schneider announced her resignation as head girls basketball coach and will officially retire on Aug. 1.

Schneider, who coached Monterey to a thrilling win over Liberty Hill in March to claim the title in San Antonio, concludes a legendary 39-year career as a head coach—27 of those at the helm of the Lady Plainsmen.

Her coaching journey began in Borger, where she led the Lady Bulldogs for 12 seasons. Schneider made her first appearance at the state tournament in 1994 with Borger. Thirty-one years later, she finished her career with a championship in her final game.

In total, Schneider’s teams made multiple playoff appearances, collected hundreds of wins, and shaped the lives of generations of student-athletes along the way. She leaves behind a lasting legacy both on and off the court.
