Texas Tech Hosts Baylor in Key Big 12 Series This Weekend

LUBBOCK, TX — Texas Tech Baseball returns home for a pivotal Big 12 matchup this weekend, hosting Baylor for a three-game series at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park. The series begins Friday at 6:30 p.m., continues Saturday at 2 p.m., and concludes Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Red Raiders (9-20, 5-7 Big 12) and Bears (21-11, 5-7) enter the weekend in a three-way tie for eighth place in the conference standings alongside Houston, with just five Big 12 series remaining in the regular season.

Friday’s game will feature a Texas Tech Baseball pennant giveaway. Saturday’s contest will include a ceremonial first pitch by rising sophomore Christian Anderson. Sunday’s game will be “Masters Sunday,” with a Texas Tech-themed golf towel giveaway.

Kansas leads the conference at 9-3, followed closely by Arizona, Arizona State, TCU, and Kansas State at 8-4. West Virginia, at 7-3, sits ahead of 6-6 Cincinnati, followed by Tech, Baylor and Houston at 5-7. Oklahoma State is 4-6, while BYU, UCF and Utah round out the standings.

Texas Tech is looking to snap a three-series losing streak, having dropped series to TCU, Kansas State and Cincinnati. A loss this weekend would mark the program’s first time losing three straight home series since 2013.

Unlike previous Tech-Baylor series, weather is not expected to impact this weekend’s games. Saturday and Sunday could challenge high-temperature records, with projected first pitch temperatures of 89 and 92 degrees, respectively.

Tech currently holds the No. 2 strength of schedule in the country (per Warren Nolan) and ranks No. 6 in non-conference strength of schedule. Only three of the team’s games have been against Quad 4 opponents.

The Red Raiders are in a home-heavy portion of the schedule, playing 12 of 17 games in April at Rip Griffin Park. The stretch includes series against Baylor, Arizona, and a midweek set with UTRGV.

Texas Tech heads to Arizona State next weekend for a Thursday–Saturday series in Tempe. First pitch is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. CT on April 17, 9 p.m. CT on April 18, and 3 p.m. CT on April 19.
