LUBBOCK, TX – Texas Tech guard Chance McMillian will showcase his talents this week at the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament, one of the premier pre-draft events for college seniors.
McMillian, a fifth-year senior, helped guide the Red Raiders to a 28-9 overall record and an Elite Eight appearance in the NCAA Tournament. He earned All-Big 12 Second Team and NABC First Team All-District honors after leading the Big 12 in 3-point shooting at 43.3 percent (71-for-164). He averaged a career-high 14.2 points per game and shot 88.5 percent (69-for-78) from the free-throw line.
The Vallejo, California native played his first three collegiate seasons at Grand Canyon before transferring to Texas Tech. He finished his career with 1,467 points and 245 made 3-pointers in 155 games.
McMillian will suit up for the Portsmouth Sports Club team alongside players such as Moussa Cisse (Memphis), Andrew Carr (Kentucky), Cameron Matthews (Mississippi State), Adama-Alpha (Santa Clara), Joe Bamisile (VCU), Earl Timberlake (Bryant) and Chucky Hepburn (Louisville). His team opens play at 6 p.m. CDT on Thursday, with the tournament running through Saturday at Churchland High School in Portsmouth, Virginia.
The P.I.T., established in 1953, features 64 top college seniors competing in front of NBA and international scouts. Alumni of the event include Hall of Famers and NBA stars such as Rick Barry, Tim Hardaway, Dennis Rodman and Jimmy Butler.
Former Red Raider Kevin Obanor played in the 2023 Portsmouth Invitational, helping his team to the tournament title while earning all-tournament honors.
