Hurtova Leads Texas Tech with Second Straight Top 20 Finish at Big 12 Championship

HOCKLEY, TX — Texas Tech sophomore Klara Hurtova led the Red Raiders at the Big 12 Women’s Golf Championship this week, finishing in a tie for 19th place after shooting 7-over-par (72-74-74—220) over three rounds at The Clubs at Houston Oaks.

Hurtova, who also finished tied for 11th at last year’s conference championship, earned her sixth Top 20 finish of the 2024-25 season. She led Texas Tech in scoring across the first two rounds and was matched by teammate Danique Stokmans for the team’s lowest score in Thursday’s final round with a 3-over-par 74.

In the final round, all five Red Raiders began on the 10th hole. Hurtova birdied the opener and recorded four straight pars before a triple bogey on the par-3 15th. After finishing the back nine at 2-over, she carded a double bogey on No. 2 but closed strong with six pars and a birdie over her final seven holes. She finished the week with 40 pars, second-most among the 73 golfers in the field.

Stokmans, Maja Ambroziak (75), and Kylee Loewe (76) also contributed to the Red Raiders' final-round score of 299, the team’s lowest round of the tournament. Tech improved one spot on the leaderboard Thursday to finish 12th overall at 51-over-par (301-303-299—903).

Arizona, Arizona State and Oklahoma State each finished at 19-over-par (871) to force a playoff for the team title. Arizona emerged victorious with a team score of 20 in the playoff, edging Arizona State (21) and Oklahoma State (22) to claim the Big 12 crown.

Texas Tech will now await the NCAA Selection Show, scheduled for Wednesday, April 23, at noon CDT on the Golf Channel. The Red Raiders’ home course, The Rawls Course, will serve as one of six regional host sites from May 5-7.
