Texas Tech Adds Former Texas HS Gatorade Player of the Year

LUBBOCK, TX — Texas Tech added another key piece to its 2025-26 men’s basketball roster as head coach Grant McCasland announced the signing of transfer forward Josiah Moseley on Thursday.

Moseley, a 6-foot-6 forward from Round Rock, Texas, returns to his home state after playing his freshman season at Villanova. He appeared in 30 games for the Wildcats, averaging 2.3 rebounds and 1.9 points per game while shooting 57.5% from the field. His season highlights included a perfect 5-for-5 performance for 10 points against Lafayette and a seven-rebound outing against Temple.

The former Stony Point High School standout was the 2023-24 Texas Gatorade Player of the Year and finished his prep career with 2,096 points. As a senior, he averaged 22.8 points and 8.9 rebounds per game while leading his team to its first-ever appearance in the Class 6A state tournament. He was also named the Texas MaxPreps Player of the Year and competed with Team USA in the U18 FIBA AmeriCup, where he earned Group Phase MVP honors after averaging 24.2 points and 8.2 rebounds.

Moseley becomes the fourth official transfer addition to the Red Raiders this offseason, joining Tyeree Bryan (Santa Clara), LeJuan Watts (Washington State), and Donovan Atwell (UNC Greensboro). He also joins freshman Marial Akuentok, a midyear addition who redshirted after joining the team in January.

Texas Tech is coming off a 28-9 campaign that included a 15-5 mark in Big 12 play and a run to the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight — the third in program history. The Red Raiders, led by McCasland, have compiled a 51-20 record over the past two seasons.
