LUBBOCK, TX — The Football Writers Association of America recognized Texas Tech’s Athletics Communications department Tuesday with its 2024 Super 11 Award, honoring the Red Raiders as one of the top-performing communications staffs in NCAA Division I FBS football.
The annual award, now in its 16th year, highlights programs that provide outstanding media access and professionalism throughout the season. Texas Tech is one of 11 schools honored this year and has now received the award twice.
"I am very proud for our staff to be recognized with this honor by the FWAA,” Dowdy said. “I would be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge our head football coach Joey McGuire, who is easily among the most accessible head coaches in college football. It starts at the top with him, with the access he gives us to the football program and the ability to tell the stories of our student-athletes. This award is a great compliment to our entire football program - from support staff, coaches and our student-athletes - for how they represent the Texas Tech brand and allow us to publicize their success.”
Texas Tech’s football communications staff includes assistant athletics director Matt Dowdy, director of communications Matt Burkholder and associate director Chris Duarte.

The FWAA bases its selections on criteria including media access to players and coaches, cooperation with interview requests, and press box operations. The organization has presented the award to 82 different programs since its inception in 2009.
