CANYON, TX — Lubbock Christian will open the Lone Star Conference Softball Championship as the No. 5 seed Thursday, facing fourth-seeded Oklahoma Christian at 5 p.m. at Schaeffer Park, hosted by top-seeded West Texas A&M.
The Lady Chaps (35-19, 26-18 LSC) closed the regular season with wins in 11 of their final 12 games and are making their fifth consecutive appearance in the LSC postseason. They finished third in the West Division and hold the fifth-best conference record overall.
A win Thursday would advance LCU to Friday’s 5 p.m. semifinal against the winner of top-seeded West Texas A&M and No. 8 seed St. Edward’s. The single-elimination tournament runs May 1–3, with the champion earning an automatic NCAA Division II tournament berth. LCU is currently ranked No. 8 in the NCAA South Central Region, with the selection show set for May 5.
The Lady Chaps earned their first LSC tournament win last season in Canyon with a 1-0 shutout over No. 21 Angelo State before falling to UT Tyler in the semifinals. LCU is 1-4 all-time in LSC Championship games.
LCU owns a 39-27 all-time record against Oklahoma Christian but has dropped eight of the last 10 meetings, including a doubleheader split in Lubbock on Feb. 16. The two programs have met once in LSC tournament play—a 13-inning quarterfinal thriller in 2022 that Oklahoma Christian won, 10-9.
In their February matchup, Kendra Levesque and Piper Garcia led the Lady Chaps offensively. Levesque went 3-for-3 with two home runs and four RBIs in the opener, while Garcia added a grand slam and drove in four runs. Garcia finished the doubleheader with four hits and six RBIs.
West Texas A&M (50-4), ranked No. 3 nationally, is the tournament host. The eight-team field also includes UT Tyler, Angelo State, Eastern New Mexico, Cameron, and St. Edward’s.
