Lubbock Christian Battles West Texas A&M in South Central Regional

CANYON, TX — Lubbock Christian University will open its fifth NCAA Division II South Central Regional appearance Thursday when the No. 7-seeded Lady Chaparrals face No. 2 seed and host West Texas A&M at 2:30 p.m. at Schaeffer Park.

LCU (36-20) joins a four-team field in Canyon that also includes No. 6 seed Colorado Mesa and No. 3 seed No. 8 Angelo State. The South Central Region is split into two four-team sites—Canyon and Tyler—with the winners advancing to the Super Regional hosted by the top remaining seed. The Tyler regional features No. 1-ranked UT Tyler, No. 21 Oklahoma Christian, Colorado Christian, and Metropolitan State of Denver.

This marks LCU’s first postseason appearance at West Texas A&M and follows back-to-back regional berths in Tyler. The Lady Chaps are 4-8 all-time in NCAA tournament play, most recently going 1-2 in 2023.

LCU and West Texas A&M will meet in the NCAA postseason for the first time, though the teams faced each other just last week in the Lone Star Conference Championship, with WTAMU claiming a 6-0 win. The Lady Buffs lead the all-time series 26-12, including a 4-1 record against LCU this season. LCU’s only win came in a 4-1 decision on April 25 in Lubbock.

In five meetings this season, the Lady Chaps are batting .194 against WTAMU, while the Lady Buffs are hitting .268 with seven home runs. Kristen Boyd leads LCU with a .308 average against West Texas A&M, and pitcher Teoni Lamb owns a 1.47 ERA across 14.1 innings in the series.

The Lady Chaps are 15-5 over their last 20 games, with all five losses coming against nationally ranked opponents. They are 4-10 this season against ranked teams and 2-8 all-time in NCAA postseason games versus ranked opponents.

In program postseason history, LCU owns a .262 team batting average and a 5.51 ERA. Savannah Wysocki is the program’s all-time postseason hits leader, batting .529 in four games. Riley Flores is the only active player with NCAA postseason experience at the plate, hitting .375 (3-for-8) in three games. Pitcher Ashlinn Hamilton has logged two innings in NCAA play.

If LCU wins Thursday, it will advance to play at noon Friday. A loss would send the Lady Chaps to an elimination game Friday at 2:30 p.m. All games in Canyon will be streamed live on FloCollege.
